Helping people tap into their personal power to take control of their health and nurishment

Sometimes people don’t know what to do to change their health and/or bodies, but more often it’s that we’re stuck in a rut and don’t know how to get out of it. 95% of our behavior occurs out of habit, either unconsciously or in reaction to external demands. That’s why most of us struggle to make changes that last. Even when the need for change is obvious and our intentions are strong, we often fall short. This is a real problem, and all the diet industry can offer is “Eat fewer calories and exercise more.”
Doctors, dietitians, and other practitioners either don’t have the time or the skills to help people stay motivated and follow through to get a lasting result. So people default to their set habits, even when they know those habits make them feel lousy. Without the right support and accountability, this dysfunctional cycle will continue and in many cases, get worse.
That’s where health coaches like me come in, to provide the right system, support, and accountability so you can – finally – make a total health and body transformation. The right system means the right steps in the right order, the right support means someone to help encourage you when you’re feeling stuck and the right accountability is a reminder when you’re falling off track. Most of us know what to do we just don’t always do it.

The Total Transformation

90 Day Intensive Program

My program consists of 3 main steps. By the end of the 90 days you are going to have different rituals, different habits, and feel totally transformed in your body. What we’re aiming towards is not some quick-fix diet, but rather changing the way you approach your health and making those changes last.

Step 1: Set up conditions for success
When you have conditions for inevitable success then the follow through becomes easy. Without this, people inevitably fall back into old patterns and get more of what they don’t want.
In our first session we look at how to make you a priority within the context of your busy lifestyle. Most people are surprised to discover that they feel trapped by their lives, their families, their jobs. This will empower you to take charge of your life and your health without compromising everything else.
The reason my clients get great results with this program is because we’re consistently considering how this all fits in – with family, friends, holidays, parties, etc… Otherwise it’s like pushing a boulder up hill. You may feel like you have to choose between your health plan and going out with friends and that’s not fun or sustainable. In this program, I’m committed to having it be sustainable, easy, and fun.
Step 2: What to eat for your unique body type
Some people burn fat best, others need more carbs or protein. Without this step you may eat foods commonly deemed as “healthy” but you don’t see or feel any change. People often wonder why they can’t get healthier, lose weight or feel like they plateau no matter how much they exercise or how much salad they eat. We want to find out as quickly as possible which foods are optimal for you. You’ll know exactly which foods are most fat burning in your body, which foods give you energy and which foods take away.
Step 3: Turning healthy habits into behaviors that last
What percentage of people do you think lose weight and then gain it back within 6 months? 98%! That’s because they are missing this step. The diet mentality is based on deprivation. You get quick-fix results because you’re able to deprive yourself for a temporary period of time. Eventually, this method falls apart which can lead to a “screw it all” binge and despite all your hard work, you gain the weight back. This is so frustrating! So we can look at what the 2% of people losing the weight do and keeping it off do. That’s the category you want to be in.

"Alex was compassionate and kind, inspiring me to investigate my eating habits with 'curiosity, not judgment.'"

“Alex is a brilliant chef, nutritionist and coach. I am so blessed I got to work with him, particularly during a very challenging part of my life. I struggled with GERD, high blood pressure and a whole host of other health issues at the ripe old age of 31. Alex was compassionate and kind, inspiring me to investigate my eating habits with “curiosity, not judgment.”

“You’ll find that’s a common theme with Alex. And the results from our sessions together were amazing. I am not completely cured, but my GERD has vanished. I was able to stop my anti-anxiety medication that I had been taking for years. My blood pressure is several points lower. And I have a whole bunch of new recipes that Alex shared with me that I now make on the regular. I discovered foods that I thought were healthy that my body hated, and new ones that my body loves. Alex introduced me to several new cook books and chefs, as well as eating habits that make me feel great. He’s an absolute god send, a compassionate listener and very smart. I can honestly say if you want to change your life in 12 weeks, please invest in Alex. Best money I’ve ever spent. He has transformed my life and made me enjoy eating – rather than dreading it.”

Who I am

Growing up I thought everybody’s family sat down to eat dinner together every night. Mealtime was our time for chatting, teasing, telling stories—and yes, eating. Maybe that’s when I started to understand that food is about more than probiotics, vitamins, or any chemical reaction. At its best, every meal is an occasion for joy.

The joy of that nightly ritual followed me as I worked every restaurant job I could weasel my way into for twenty-five years. Front of house, back of the house, fine dining, catering, you name it—I worked my way across America, from the deep Southeast of Florida to the food haven of Portland, Oregon, as well as my travels through Spain and France.

As a chef, I established close relationships with farmers and producers. I came to know and love my kitchen families as well—as crazy as they could be. But something was missing: The further up the restaurant ladder I climbed, the farther away I got from seeing each diner as an individual, complete human. I knew it was time for a change.

My new role, as a Certified Health Coach, offers me the chance to bring you the best of both worlds.

The fact is, not all of us can afford a personal chef—much less a personal nutritionist. And even if we could afford both of those professionals, they’d probably fight with each other half the time. Similarly, I’ve found the comradery of those family dinners all-too-often missing from the Spartan (but otherwise stellar) style of our contemporary restaurant culture.

I can’t pretend that I’ll be all things to everyone, but I can promise you this: I’ve put all my heart into health coaching, and I’ll do all I can to bring you and your body to a place where mealtime is an occasion for joy and nourishment. You won’t believe how good you feel!
